Inauguration Ceremony of the University of Birmingham, UK Funded Project Cultivating Global Citizenship: Empowering Teachers to Become Change Makers in Pakistan at University of Education, Lahore

The inauguration ceremony of the project Cultivating Global Citizenship: Empowering Teachers to Become Change Makers in Pakistan was held in University of Education, Township Campus, Lahore on April 19, 2024. The Vice Chancellor University of Education, Lahore Prof. Dr. Muhammad Alam Saeed was the chief guest on this occasion.  This project is led by Professor Meng Tian (Associate Professor of Educational Leadership, Director Global Engagement, College of Social Sciences, University of Birmingham, UK and co-led by Dr. Naima Qureshi (Assistant Professor, University of Education, Lahore.). The project partners include University of Education, Lahore, Ali Institute of Education and Academic Leaders Innovation Forum (ALIF).  The day witnessed the participation of over 60 pre-service and in-service teachers hailing from 15 different universities, as well as public and private schools across the city. Through transformative pedagogies, these teachers will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to foster global citizenship among their students.
Dr. Naima Qureshi co-led of this project discussed the importance of this project in empowering teachers as change agents within their communities. She said that ‘by investing in the professional development of teachers, we are investing in the future of Pakistan.’ Prof. Dr. Alam Saeed (Vice Chancellor, University of Education, Lahore) extend his heartfelt welcome and support for the Global Citizenship project and acknowledge the need to shape the new generation of global citizens who are not only academically proficient but socially conscious and ethically responsible. He also thanked University of Birmingham, UK for the generous funding for this project.
